If youβre in the New York cannabis industry, the place to be last Friday and Saturday, Sept. 12-13, was on the dock of bay, the East Riverβs Pier 36, for Revelry NYC.Β Well over 250 companies exhibited their wares to over 4,500 attendees, who were both industry players and the cannabis-friendly public.
Major multi-state operators (MSOs) such as Weedmaps, Rove, Kiva, PAX, Papa and Barkley, Wyld and many more brought major activations, as did several New York-centric companies and organizations.
Business-to-business herb events have been few and far between in NYC.Β So, you could feel the enthusiasm of both exhibitors and attendees, despite the vagaries laid on them by Empire State regulators.Β Many in the community commented they βneeded this gathering.β
People on the River
Along with the scarcity of New York City industry meetups, those that allow consumption and sampling are even more rare.Β Exhibitors were allowed to give samples to registered buyers, and consumption was permitted in the stage and food court area outside.
Being more of a festival than a trade show, Revelry NYC is the core concept for co-founders Lulu Tsui and Jacobi Holland.Β They started nine years ago with the mindset of representing the cannabis community rather than the βsuits and tiesβ crowd. That adherence to the plant and its people may be why Revelry NYC is doing so well when other larger event companies arenβt.

Many exhibitors echoed the same sentimentβthey came to Revelry not just to showcase their brand, but also to meet and connect with fellow industry leaders. Fernway Co-Founder Liam OβBrien, who started the company in Massachusetts and has since expanded into New York and New Jersey, said the event was working out very well for them, both with traffic at the booth and arranging meetings off site.Β
βThere are so few events in New York where you find all the companies and the innovators,β OβBrien said, explaining why Fenway exhibits at Revelry NYC.
And it wasnβt just local tribe members spreading the word and the cannabis positivity.Β Movers and shakers from across the country descended on Lower Manhattan. In from California was Jocelyn Sheltraw, co-founder and CEO of the product review app and website, Budist. She and Budistβs COO, Claudio Miranda, were hearing strong buzz about Revelry and decided to investigate in person. Sheltraw felt it was more than worth the trip.
βWe were thrilled to attend Revelry to experience firsthand the emergence of this bustling legal market, as well as to spread word about the MJBowl, which offers New York brands a national stage to celebrate the best their market has to offer.β
The exhibit aisles were packed. By late afternoon, booth staffers were running to collect back up supplies to give out more samples. Unlike many recent cannabis industry summits, staffers agreed that Revelry delivered: not only were valuable new contacts made, but real business was being doneβthe ROI was clear.
Rolling With Brands, Bands and Big Names
Celebrities and talented artists abounded at the event. On the exhibit floor, there was Fat Joe at the Jeeter booth; Mike Tyson representing Tyson 2.0; Rob Gronkowski at the Foy booth; and Remy Banks greeting crowds at Olio.
At the large outside stage on the second day, Durand Bernarr (solo artist and back up to Erykah Badu and Anderson Paak), Phony PPL, Dos Flakos and Angel & Drenβall NYC-based talentβkept the crowd energized and floating.

Unlike last yearβs Revelry event, the doors to the East River were closed. This cut off Pier 36βs sweeping views of the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges and the Wall Street area. But with 55,000 square feet of exhibit space in addition to other gathering spaces makes it a strong venue for a cannabis event.
Interestingly, many exhibitors commented on how the West Coast-based Hall of Flowers will be holding their first New York City-event in the exact same space in a few weeks, October 8-9.Β Several New York company representatives said they were in a wait-and-see position on exhibiting with HoF, primarily because Revelry is homegrown in New York. That being said, since no major cannabis event companies are stepping into the New York ring this year, Revelry NYC cements itself as the premier cannabis conference in the Big Apple.
NFL star quarterback Aaron Rodgers will be a featured speaker at a psychedelics conference to be held in Denver this summer, less than a year after Colorado voters decriminalized the therapeutic use of psilocybin mushrooms. Touted by the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS) as the βlargest psychedelic gathering in history,β the Psychedelic Science 2023 conference will take place in June at the Colorado Convention Center.
Last year, the Green Bay Packers star quarterback revealed that he had traveled to South America to try the psychedelic ayahuasca on more than one occasion. Rodgers said that the experience changed his mindset and had a positive effect on his mental health, crediting the drug with helping him subsequently be selected as the NFLβs most valuable player two seasons in a row. In December, he added that using ayahuasca and psilocybin mushrooms has helped him cope with a strong fear of death he has had since he was a teenager.
Rodgers has been very open about his use of psychedelics and has said he hopes that sharing his experience can help dispel the stigma attached to the powerful compounds. And in June, he will be one of more than 300 speakers to address the Psychedelic Science 2023 conference in Denver. Presented by MAPS, the gathering has been hailed by the psychedelics research and advocacy nonprofit organization as the βdefinitive event of the psychedelic renaissance.β
βAaron Rodgers will be interviewed by Aubrey Marcus at Psychedelic Science 2023 about his experiences with Ayahuasca, which heβs previously spoken about on Aubreyβs podcast,β said MAPS founder and executive director Rick Doblin. βWeβre delighted Aaron is open to sharing his views at what will become the worldβs largest psychedelic conference ever.βΒ
Psychedelic drugs including LSD, psilocybin, and ayahuasca have received renewed interest from researchers for their potential to treat a wide range of mental health conditions including depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, and substance misuse disorders. In November, Colorado voters took new steps in psychedelic policy reform with the passage of Proposition 122, a ballot measure to legalize the possession and therapeutic use of certain natural psychedelic drugs including psilocybin mushrooms, DMT, ibogaine and mescaline, for people age 21 and older. The measure also authorizes the establishment of βhealing centersβ where adults can obtain access to natural psychedelics for therapeutic purposes. The measure, which passed with more than 53% of the vote, is now in the process of being implemented by state officials.
Aaron Rodgers And Psychedelics
Last weekend during an appearance on the The Pat McAfee Show, Rodgers said that he would make a decision about retiring from professional football after he takes a four-day βdarkness retreatβ later this month. The 18-year NFL veteran said that the retreat will include ββsensory deprivation isolationβ that will simulate the drug DMT with the potential for hallucinations,β according to a report from CBS Sports.Β
βItβs an opportunity to do a little self-reflection in some isolation and after that, I feel like Iβll be a lot closer to that final, final decision,β Rodgers said on Tuesday. βIβve had a number of friends whoβve done it and they had profound experiences.βΒ
In August, Rodgers revealed that he had traveled to South America to take ayahuasca before being selected as the leagueβs most valuable player in back-to-back seasons, saying the traditional psychedelic brew changed his thinking and significantly improved his mental health. Rodgers made the revelations about ayahuasca experiences during an appearance on the Aubrey Marcus Podcast, saying that the psychedelic drug helped him find self-love and mental wellness.
The Super Bowl champion quarterback said he made the trip to South America before winning the MVP award for the third and fourth time. Following the ayahuasca experience, he said, he βknew that [he] was never going to be the same.β
βFor me, I didnβt do that and think βoh, Iβm never playing football again,ββ Rodgers said, as quoted by USA Today. βNo, it gave me a deep and meaningful appreciation for life. My intention the first night going in was βI want to feel what pure love feels like.β That was my intention. And I did. I really did. I had a magical experience with the sensation of feeling a hundred different hands on my body imparting a blessing of love and forgiveness for myself and gratitude for this life from what seemed to be my ancestors.β
The Psychedelic Science 2023 conference takes place at the Colorado Convention Center from June 19 through June 23. Other featured speakers include Doblin, groundbreaking researcher Robin Carhart-Harris, wellness guru Deepak Chopra, and Amanda Feilding, the executive director at the U.K.-based psychedelics advocacy organization the Beckley Foundation.
