Ingredients
All-purpose flour β 1.25 cups
Baking powder β 1 tspΒ
Baking soda β ΒΌ tsp
Kosher salt β 1/4 tsp
Orange juice β 1/2 cup
Milk β 1/3 cup
Pure vanilla extract β Β½ tsp
Unsalted butter β 5tbsp (At room temperature)
Brown sugar β 3/4 cup
Orange zest β 1 tbsp
Cake pan (7 inches)
Hereβs how you do it
Preheat the oven to 350F. Grease a 7-inch cake pan and line the bottom with parchment paper.
In a mixing bowl, combine 5 tbsp of unsalted, room temperature butter along with 1 cup of brown sugar using a hand mixer or whisk until light and fluffy.Β
Add β cup milk and mix gently until combined using a hand mixer. Add Β½ cup freshly squeezed orange juice, Β½Β tsp vanilla extract, and 1 tbsp of finely grated orange zest(grated from the orange peel).
Sift 1.25 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 tsp baking powder, ΒΌ tsp baking soda, and ΒΌ tsp salt in another bowl.
Add the sifted dry ingredients little by little to the wet ingredients bowl and fold the mixture just until it is incorporated. You can also use a low-speed hand mixer to mix the ingredients to a lump-free smooth texture. Do not overmix the batter.
Transfer to the cake pan and bake for about 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean. Let the cake cool down completely. Top it with whipped cream frosting just before serving!
