Litecoin Structure Intact, But $63 Remains The Line Bulls Must Defend

23 January 2026 at 20:00

Litecoin is once again at a critical crossroads, with its long-term structure remaining intact after years of successful defenses. However, the margin for error is thin. As price hovers near key levels, $63 has emerged as the line bulls must protect. A break below it could shift momentum sharply, while holding above keeps the broader bullish structure alive and sets the stage for the next decisive move.

Structure Gives Way, Expansion Phase Begins

Columbus’s latest LTC update highlights that the multi-year compression that previously capped price action has finally resolved, resulting in a clean break of the long-term chart setup. This structural change confirms a shift from a neutral state to a clearly bullish one.

The current price action is described as a pause before expansion rather than the conclusion of the rally. In this phase, Litecoin is holding steady above old resistance levels, allowing the market to load for the next leg of the move, turning previous barriers into new support. Litecoin’s projected path forward is based on the typical behavior of expansion cycles following structural breaks.Β

The strategy follows a clear three-step progression: the initial breakout, followed by the current phase of acceptance. Once the market fully accepts these new price levels, the β€œreal move” begins, representing a phase where the most significant gains are expected to materialize.

The 9-Year Trendline That Still Controls Litecoin

Matthew Dixon highlighted the immense historical significance of the Litecoin long-term trend line. This line has acted as an unbreakable floor for nine years, with the price never closing below it. While the market has dipped under this line multiple times in the past, every attempt to break down has ultimately failed, maintaining a remarkably consistent structural defense.

Currently, the market environment is putting this nearly decade-long support to the test once again. Dixon emphasizes that we cannot rely on intra-month volatility to determine the outcome. Instead, the definitive signal rests solely on the monthly candle close. This closing price will serve as a macro-economic pivot point that dictates the primary direction for the coming months.

A successful hold above the trend line would be a powerful bullish confirmation, suggesting the long-term uptrend remains intact despite external pressures. Conversely, a confirmed close below this line would shift the narrative to bearish, marking a historic breakdown of a nine-year support system.

Specific technical triggers are also in play, particularly the $63 level. Dixon warns that falling below $63 would be devastating, as it would effectively nullify the hidden bullish divergence currently supporting the price. Given these risks, Dixon recommends exercising patience until the monthly close or ensuring strict stop losses are in place for any active trades.

Litecoin dips below $70 as geopolitical tensions throttle crypto momentum

20 January 2026 at 12:37
  • Litecoin price fell below $70, trading to lows seen in April 2025.
  • Declines follow a broader cryptocurrency market downturn amid geopolitical tensions.
  • Bitcoin and Ethereum dropped to key support levels.

Litecoin (LTC) price has turned negative amid mounting downward pressure, with a slight dip in the past 24 hours pushing LTC below the critical $70 mark.

Seller dominance has the altcoin trading nearly 10% down over the past week.

This comes amid escalating geopolitical tensions fueled by uncertainties surrounding Greenland and the United States’ interest in the Arctic territory currently under Denmark.

It’s this dampening risk appetite across digital assets that has Litecoin at risk amid a correction to levels seen in April last year.

Litecoin fails to hold $70 support

Litecoin’s price action turned bearish after hitting a high of $84 on January 6, 2026.

A series of lower highs and lows led to today’s breach of the psychologically vital $70 support level.

It’s the first time in nearly a year, with market data showing LTC dipped to a low of $68.45 during early US trading hours on Jan. 20.

Daily volume, however, shrank 45% to about $413 million, indicating a potential thaw in heavy selling.

Interestingly, the $70 level coincides with a long-term downtrend line from early 2020.

The weekly chart also shows that the 50-week exponential moving average (EMA) is about to cross below the 200-week EMA.

A 50‑week EMA crossing below the 200‑week EMA is generally interpreted as a long‑term bearish signal.

In technical analysis, this is a β€œdeath cross,” and often suggests downside or weak performance, in this case, it suggests the recent trend has weakened.

The weekly RSI is downsloping but not yet in oversold territory, but last time it touched the threshold, the LTC price hit lows of $46.

On-chain metrics also reveal a surge in long-position liquidations.

According to Coinglass data, Litecoin has seen close to $800,000 in 24 hour liquidations. Meanwhile, open interest at $564 million points to potential exacerbation of the slide.

The areas around $62 and $51 offer the next support zones.

Bitcoin, Ethereum fall to key levels

Global stocks fell on Tuesday, and mirroring the move is Bitcoin (BTC), which extended its correction amid the geopolitical tensions related to Greenland.

BTC has fallen to near $90,000, with buyers unable to reclaim key levels despite bullish corporate signals. Strategy’s announcement of acquiring 22,305 BTC for $2.13 billion, at an average of $95,284 per coin, did not lift buyers.

Among top altcoins, Ethereum (ETH) has shed over 5% in the past 24 hours to hover near $3,000.

XRP has again failed to rally amid a recent spike and slipped to $1.92 as cryptocurrencies struggled.

Geopolitical risks may see these coins tumble further.

Here’s Why The Litecoin Price May Be Getting Ready For Another Massive Rally

20 January 2026 at 06:30

The Litecoin price has seen its fair share of volatility and corrections over the past few weeks. Despite the downtrend, a crypto analyst has forecasted that LTC could be laying the groundwork for another explosive rally. He has shared a detailed technical analysis and price chart explaining why he believes Litecoin could eventually flip into a bullish position.Β

Litecoin may be positioning itself for another powerful rally, as its market structure remains broadly intact. According to a recent analysis from market expert The Penguin (@ThePenguinXBT), LTC’s structure continues to point toward much higher price levels, with recent volatility and declines doing little to change the overall macro outlook.Β

Litecoin Price Gets Ready For Explosive Rally

Sharing a 4-hour price chart, The Penguin gave a detailed breakdown of why he believes Litecoin is preparing for another price surge. He explained that LTC has now swept the October 10 wick, a key technical move that could signal the end of downside liquidity grabs. At the same time, the chart shows a completed five-wave move lower into what appears to be the final leg of Litecoin’s correction.Β

The Penguin noted that LTC’s price had earlier stabilized within a clear horizontal range, then briefly dipped below it and quickly reclaimed that level. This rebound took place near the lower support zone around $70, where a sharp sell-off was met with strong buying pressure. As a result, price action formed a rounded recovery from the recent low, which the analyst identified as Litecoin’s final corrective wave.Β

According to The Penguin, the internal structure of Litecoin’s recent move suggests two things: the final correction has been completed, or there might be one last marginal low for LTC. Either way, he emphasized that the broader setup remains strongly bullish.

The Penguin has projected that once Litecoin begins its next impulsive move, it could become difficult for the price to be pushed back into previous trading ranges. From the rounded recovery line, the chart points toward a potential move to $82. The analyst has also highlighted an upper blue resistance line above $86 as an additional upside target. If the chart setup plays out as expected, Litecoin could see its price skyrocket by more than 17% from current levels around $70.Β Β Β

Analyst Sets Ambitious $1,600 Price Target For LTC

In a more recent analysis, The Penguin shared a new chart suggesting that Litecoin could be gearing up for a dramatic price rally. The chart highlights a key descending triangle pattern, traditionally known as a bearish continuation signal, especially when it forms after a downtrend.Β

According to the analyst, Litecoin is attempting to break out of a multi-year descending triangle on its weekly chart, signaling the potential end of its consolidation and the start of a new bullish phase. Once this happens, The Penguin predicts that the cryptocurrency could embark on a sharp vertical rally toward $1,600.Β

Litecoin price outlook: is $80 next as BTC reclaims $92k?

12 January 2026 at 12:10
  • Litecoin traded to lows of $75 as top altcoins slipped in early US trading.
  • Bitcoin and Ethereum also slid before picking up slight gains.
  • US Department of Justice has opened a criminal probe against Jerome Powell.

Litecoin price slipped more than 5% as the cryptocurrency markets experienced a synchronised downturn on Monday, with stocks also down amid concerns over the independence of the US Federal Reserve.

The price of Litecoin reached $75 but with BTC eyeing gains, could LTC jump towards $100?

Litecoin to mirror top coins?

Downside action across the crypto market followed a fresh dump for Bitcoin.

Bitcoin hovered near the $90,000 level in the early US trading session on Monday, having pared gains from above $92,000.

However, the token traded at around $92,135 at the time of writing, while Ethereum lingered close to $3,134.

Both Bitcoin and Ethereum were showing resilience as markets weathered bearish pressure.

While the two remain near respective psychological thresholds, reclaiming upside momentum may be key to Litecoin gains.

LTC traded at around $77 at the time of writing.

But as the chart below shows, the path lower appears stronger for the altcoin.

Crypto slid amid Fed subpoenas

Notably, buyers saw prices dip as markets reacted to news that the Department of Justice (DOJ) had launched a criminal investigation into Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell.

Top altcoins like XRP and BNB saw declines, and Litecoin traded to lows of $75, last seen in late December.

The slide in the leading cryptocurrencies stemmed from risk-off sentiment triggered by the news of a DOJ probe against Fed chair Jerome Powell.

Powell released a statement on Sunday,Β  revealing subpoenas from the Justice Department.

Although the news saw Bitcoin flip to above $92k, declines followed as Wall Street futures dipped.

Β

The DOJ’s subpoenas and criminal probe against Powell have intensified fears of political interference in US monetary policy.

Powell emphasised that the investigation appeared motivated by the Fed’s resistance to demands for aggressive interest rate cuts, rather than solely the renovation-related testimony.

β€œWhile the Fed needs reform, including maintaining the crucial issue of central bank independence while strengthening accountability, a mishandled process risks derailing appointments and undermining further policy effectiveness,” Mohamed El-Erian said on X.

This uncertainty has US stocks pulling back from recent record highs.

On Monday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average sank 0.8%, while the S&P 500 shed 0.3%. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite was down around 0.2%.

The pullback reflects broader risk aversion, with investors rotating toward perceived safe havens like gold. Gold prices indeed extended gains on Jan 12. amid the turmoil.
