GameStop Transfers $420M in Bitcoin to Coinbase, Sparking Exit Speculation

By: Amin Ayan

GameStop has transferred its entire Bitcoin stash to Coinbase Prime, triggering fresh speculation that the video game retailer may be preparing to unwind its short-lived Bitcoin treasury strategy.

Key Takeaways:

  • GameStop moved its entire 4,710 BTC stash to Coinbase Prime, sparking speculation of a potential exit from its Bitcoin treasury.
  • If sold near current prices, the company would realize an estimated $75M–$85M loss on its Bitcoin holdings.
  • The transfer comes as corporate crypto treasury strategies face pressure amid falling digital asset prices.

Blockchain analytics firm CryptoQuant flagged the move on Friday after identifying a wallet labeled as belonging to GameStop that sent all 4,710 BTC, worth roughly $420 million at current prices, to Coinbase’s institutional trading platform.

“GameStop throws in the towel?” CryptoQuant asked in a post on X, suggesting the transfer was “likely to sell.”

GameStop Faces Potential $75M–$85M Loss on Bitcoin Bet if Sold

If liquidated near recent market prices, the sale would lock in a sizable loss.

CryptoQuant estimates GameStop accumulated its Bitcoin in May at an average price of around $107,900 per coin, implying unrealized losses of roughly $75 million to $85 million, depending on execution price.

GameStop announced its Bitcoin purchase earlier this year after CEO Ryan Cohen met with Strategy chairman Michael Saylor in February to discuss corporate crypto treasury models.

At the time, the move aligned the meme-stock retailer with a growing group of public companies experimenting with digital assets as balance-sheet holdings.

GameStop throws in the towel?

Their on-chain wallets just moved all BTC holdings to Coinbase Prime, likely to sell.

Between May 14–23, 2025, they bought 4,710 BTC at an avg. price of $107.9K, investing ~$504M.

Since the transfer, GameStop has not publicly confirmed whether it has sold or intends to sell the Bitcoin.

While moving funds to Coinbase Prime often precedes a sale, given the platform’s deep liquidity and execution tools, such transfers do not always signal imminent liquidation.

Coinbase Prime also provides custody and wallet management services through its regulated trust business, leaving open the possibility of an internal restructuring.

The timing has fueled debate. Corporate Bitcoin treasuries surged in popularity throughout 2024 and early 2025, but the model has faced growing scrutiny as crypto prices pulled back sharply in recent months.

Several firms that adopted similar strategies are now sitting on steep paper losses, prompting some to trim holdings to shore up balance sheets.

Ethereum-focused ETHZilla, for example, recently disclosed selling part of its Ether reserves to reduce debt.

Cohen Stock Purchase Lifts GameStop Shares as Bitcoin Questions Swirl

The transfer also coincides with renewed activity from Cohen himself.

A regulatory filing this week revealed the CEO purchased an additional 500,000 GameStop shares worth more than $10 million, helping push GME shares up over 3% on Thursday.

The stock move added another layer of intrigue, with some investors viewing the buy as a vote of confidence amid uncertainty around the company’s crypto exposure.

Despite the recent pressure, corporate crypto treasuries remain embedded in traditional markets.

Earlier this month, MSCI opted not to remove digital asset treasury companies from its indexes, a decision that spared firms like Strategy from potential billions in passive outflows.

Kansas Bill Proposes Bitcoin and Digital Assets Reserve Using Unclaimed Property

By: Amin Ayan

Lawmakers in the US state of Kansas are weighing new legislation that would establish a state-managed Bitcoin and digital assets reserve funded by unclaimed digital property already held by the state.

Key Takeaways:

  • Kansas is weighing a state-managed Bitcoin reserve funded by unclaimed digital assets.
  • The proposal avoids direct Bitcoin purchases, relying instead on abandoned crypto, airdrops, and staking rewards.
  • The bill updates state law on how unclaimed digital assets are defined and managed.

Kansas Senate Bill 352 (SB 352), introduced on Wednesday by Senator Craig Bowser, proposes the creation of a “Bitcoin and digital assets reserve fund” within the state treasury.

The fund would be administered by the Kansas state treasurer and would rely on abandoned digital assets rather than taxpayer-funded cryptocurrency acquisitions.

Kansas Bitcoin Bill To Be Funded by Airdrops, Unclaimed Digital Assets

Under the bill, the reserve would be built from airdrops, staking rewards, and interest generated from digital assets that fall under Kansas’ unclaimed property laws.

These assets may include Bitcoin, cryptocurrencies, and other digital-only assets that have been deemed abandoned after owners fail to claim them within a legally defined period.

Notably, the proposal explicitly avoids direct purchases of Bitcoin by the state. Instead, it reflects a broader policy approach gaining traction at both state and federal levels, where governments seek exposure to digital assets without buying them on the open market.

This mirrors the White House’s plan to establish a US Strategic Bitcoin Reserve using forfeited Bitcoin rather than newly acquired coins.

SB 352 outlines how funds would be allocated once digital assets enter the reserve. Ten percent of each deposit would be transferred to Kansas’ general fund, while Bitcoin itself would be excluded from general fund use and retained within the reserve.

The remaining assets would stay under the reserve fund’s management, potentially allowing the state to benefit from long-term appreciation or yield.

The bill also introduces amendments to Kansas’ unclaimed property statutes, formally defining terms such as “digital assets” and “airdrops.”

It further clarifies how the state should custody, manage, and account for these assets once they are classified as abandoned.

After clearing the Federal and State Affairs Committee, SB 352 was referred on Thursday to the Senate Committee on Financial Institutions and Insurance, where it will face further review.

Kansas Bitcoin Reserve Proposal Follows Pension Fund ETF Bill

The proposal follows earlier digital asset initiatives in Kansas.

Senate Bill 34, introduced in January 2025, would allow the Kansas Public Employees Retirement System to allocate up to 10% of its portfolio to spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds. That bill remains under consideration in the same committee.

Kansas is one of several US states exploring crypto-related legislation, including reserve concepts, regulatory task forces, and limited investment frameworks.

At the federal level, the administration of President Donald Trump has reiterated plans to move forward with a national Bitcoin reserve funded through seized assets.

A senior White House official said in January that the initiative remains a priority.

Internationally, countries such as El Salvador and Bhutan have already taken more direct approaches, incorporating Bitcoin into national strategies through state holdings, mining initiatives, and development projects tied to digital assets.

BitMine’s Ethereum Holdings Near 3.5% Supply Milestone As ETH Falls Below $3,000

As the Ethereum (ETH) price retests a crucial support zone, BitMine revealed it has added another $110 million worth of ETH to its treasury holdings over the past week, approaching an important milestone for the company’s investment strategy.

BitMine’s Ethereum Bet Continues

On Tuesday, BitMine, a Bitcoin and Ethereum Network Company with a focus on accumulating crypto for long-term investment, announced its holdings had reached 4.2 million ETH tokens after acquiring 35,268 ETH, worth roughly $110 million, in the past week.

As a result, the company, which is the largest Ethereum Treasury company in the world and the second-largest global treasury, has crypto and cash holdings totaling $14.5 billion at current prices.

According to the announcement, the company now owns 4,203,036 ETH at $3,211, 193 Bitcoin (BTC), a $22 million stake in Eightco Holdings as part of its “Moonshots” initiative, and unencumbered cash worth $979 million.

After the latest purchase, BitMine now holds 3.48% of ETH’s total supply, and nears its goal to control 5% of the leading altcoin’s 120.7 million supply. Notably, it has achieved nearly 70% if “Alchemy of 5%” target in just six months.

BitMine’s chairman, Thomas “Tom” Lee, stated that “Ethereum’s price ratio to Bitcoin, or ETHBTC, has been steadily climbing since mid-October. In our view, this reflects investors recognizing tokenization and other use cases being developed by Wall Street are being built on Ethereum.”

As of January 19, 2026, BitMine’s total staked ETH stands at 1,838,003, worth $5.9 billion at $3,211 per ETH, an increase of 581,920 ETH in the past week.

ETH Price At Crucial Support Zone

Despite BitMine’s constant bet on the cryptocurrency, Ethereum retraced nearly all its 2026 gains after falling below the $3,000 barrier. On Tuesday, ETH recorded a 6.8% decline in the daily timeframe, dropping from the $3,200 area to a three-week low of $2,980.

The King of altcoins has been trading between the $2,600-$3,350 area since the November pullbacks, reclaiming the upper zone of this range during the start of the year rally. Now, ETH is retesting an important multi-support area that could define the cryptocurrency’s short-term performance.

Analyst World of Charts affirmed that there are two “simple” possibilities for Ethereum. If the price loses the $3,000 area, which serves as the mid-zone of its local range and a key macro support and resistance level, then a retest of the $2,600 lows becomes likely.

On the contrary, if the altcoin holds this zone in the daily timeframe and momentum builds, it could retest the range’s upper boundary resistance again.

Amid the pullback, another pseudonym market observer also pointed out that ETH is currently retesting its 50-day Moving Average (MA), which was reclaimed at the start of the year and currently sits at the $3,089 level.

According to the post, if the 50-day MA holds, a move to the 200-day MA, located around the $3,650 area, could come next. “All eyes [are] on a close above the 50-day MA, which will point to a successful back test,” he added.

As of this writing, ETH is trading at $2,999, a 7% decline in the weekly timeframe.

Ethereum Treasury Bitmine Makes $200M Bet On MrBeast’s Company

Ethereum treasury company Bitmine has announced a $200 million investment into Beast Industries, owned by popular creator MrBeast.

Bitmine Is Making An Investment In MrBeast-Owned Firm

As revealed in a press release, Bitmine Immersion Technologies is investing $200 million into Beast Industries in a deal that’s expected to close on or around January 19th.

Originally a cryptocurrency mining-focused company, Bitmine pivoted into being an Ethereum treasury company in mid-2025. Since then, the firm has aggressively accumulated ETH and established itself as the second largest digital asset treasury in the world behind Strategy.

Now, it seems Bitmine is looking to diversify with the Beast Industries move. Beast Industries is an entertainment company founded and led by Jimmy Donaldson, the personality behind MrBeast.

MrBeast is the most subscribed channel on YouTube with more than 460 million subscribers. “MrBeast and Beast Industries, in our view, is the leading content creator of our generation, with a reach and engagement unmatched with GenZ, GenAlpha and Millennials,” said Thomas ‘Tom’ Lee, Bitmine Chairman.

In December, Beast Industries revealed a new financial services platform. Now, with the Bitmine investment, Jeff Housenbold, Beast Industries CEO, has hinted at a collaboration with Bitmine for the platform.

Housenbold noted:

Their support is a strong validation of our vision, strategy, and growth trajectory and it provides additional capital to achieve our goal to become the most impactful entertainment brand in the world. We look forward to exploring ways to further collaborate and incorporate DeFi into our upcoming financial services platform.

Bitmine has set a long-term goal of acquiring 5% of the Ethereum supply for its treasury. According to a Monday press release, the company’s holdings have grown to around 4.17 million ETH, equivalent to 3.45% of the cryptocurrency’s total supply in circulation.

Thus, the firm is still some ways from its 5% target, but considering that it only started accumulating ETH half a year ago, its progress is significant. Bitmine’s momentum could, however, soon face a structural obstacle.

Bitmine currently has a 500 million share authorization and the company is looking to increase the cap via a shareholder vote. “Bitmine charter has an unusual feature requiring 50.1% of all shares outstanding to support a share increase,” said Lee. “This is an extremely high bar and thus, makes it very difficult to get an authorized share increase.”

The proposal will be discussed at the firm’s annual stock meeting, scheduled for January 15th, with the remaining votes tied to in-person participation after remote voting channels were closed earlier this week.

Ethereum has witnessed a notable jump over the last week as its price has surged nearly 7% to the $3,300 level.

Popular Attorney Reveals Why Ripple Was Unable To Push XRP All These Years

Famous legal expert Bill Morgan has highlighted how Ripple was unable to promote XRP over the past few years due to its former legal battle against the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

Why Ripple Was Unable To Promote XRP In The Past

In an X post, Bill Morgan stated that Ripple could not promote XRP or the XRP Ledger in the past for fear of being sued by the SEC for promoting and offering an unregistered security. He noted that despite that, the company was still sued by the regulator. The lawyer’s response followed XRPL stakeholder Wietse’s comments about how the XRPL has a track record of regularly being too early and also being too late.

Wietse made this comment after XRP community member Crypto Eri pointed out that the XRP Ledger has supported tokenized gold since, though it hasn’t received enough publicity. Wietse added that the network is too early for people to notice and realize how great certain things are, and too late for others, causing too little, too late catch-up.

However, Bill Morgan believes that XRP and XRP Ledger would have gotten more publicity if Ripple had been able to actively promote the altcoin in the past. He noted that during the SEC lawsuit, the crypto firm barely mentioned XRP. Meanwhile, the lawyer noted that Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other cryptos were promoted with impunity and that former SEC official Bill Hinman effectively promoted ETH while in office.

The lawyer added that, to this day, Ripple’s promotion of XRP and the XRP Ledger remains muted. He stated that the company does it by stealth under the cover of acquisitions and RLUSD. Morgan believes that this is nothing compared to how Michael Saylor actively talks about and promotes Bitcoin.

XRP Is Still At The Centre Of Ripple’s Vision

Ripple has, in recent times, reiterated that XRP is at the centre of its vision. In his New Year’s message, the firm’s CEO, Brad Garlinghouse, stated that the altcoin has been and will continue to be the heartbeat of that vision. This came as he noted that their two major acquisitions last year, Ripple Prime and GTreasury, will greatly accelerate and expand their ability to deliver on their vision, which is to enable the Internet of Value.

He added that building and using crypto infrastructure, updating their global financial plumbing, and rethinking legacy systems don’t happen overnight. As such, they will continue to take the long view of what crypto-based assets such as XRP and RLUSD can do rather than chasing cycles and hype.

At the time of writing, the XRP price is trading at around $2.16, up over 5% in the last 24 hours, according to data from CoinMarketCap.

Bitmine’s Billion-Dollar Ethereum Bet Takes Flight, Here’s How The Company Is Moving Up

Bitmine Immersion Technologies has been making a statement with its assertive accumulation and staking of Ethereum. In just a few months, the company has assembled one of the largest known ETH treasuries held by a publicly traded firm, moving steadily toward its stated ambitious goal of controlling 5% of the total Ethereum supply.

According to a recent disclosure, Bitmine is now holding about 4.17 million Ethereum (ETH) tokens, which is about 3.45% of the total circulating supply. Furthermore, the company’s total staked ETH tally has now surpassed 1.2 million tokens.

Heavy Stakes And A Clear Target

Bitmine is now the largest fresh money buyer of ETH in the world, and its string of ETH purchases has kept many Ethereum investors on the edge of their seats on how this might affect the price of the altcoin.

Bitmine Immersion has funneled about $3.9 billion worth of Ethereum into staking under the leadership of Tom Lee, a move that shows conviction in ETH’s long-term prospects and the company’s desire to generate yield for its investors. Notably, the company’s total staked ETH tally has now surpassed 1.2 million tokens, bringing it close to 70 percent of the way toward its self-proclaimed “Alchemy of 5%” target of owning 5% of all Ethereum in circulation.

Bitmine’s approach to staking is starting to be much more than passive yield. The company is preparing to launch its own Made in America Validator Network (MAVAN), which it says will be among the largest ETH staking infrastructures in the ecosystem once live.

This means Bitmine is now looking to transition from simply holding and staking Ether through third parties to becoming a staking infrastructure provider. If all of Bitmine’s staked ETH were managed through MAVAN and its partners at current rates, Ethereum staking fees could generate about $370 million for the company.

Growing The Balance Sheet To Sustain Ethereum Accumulation

Bitmine’s balance sheet extends well past its staking operations. The company now holds a diversified pool of assets spanning Bitcoin, Ethereum, other digital assets, and cash, with total holdings valued at around $14 billion, including its just over 4 million ETH.

Interestingly, the company has continued to add to its holdings in recent weeks, even as it increases its liquid cash position. The most recent purchase was of 24,266 ETH last week.

At the same time, the company made a corporate decision that it says is critical to sustaining this strategy of steadily accumulating more Ethereum tokens. Notably, Bitmine is now seeking a positive 50.1% shareholder vote to increase its authorized share count at its upcoming annual stockholder meeting scheduled for January 15, 2026.

According to the company, the current authorization of 500 million shares is close to being fully utilized, and once that limitation is reached, its ability to continue acquiring Ethereum at the current pace would slow down massively.

Top Bullish Predictions That Put XRP Price At New All-Time Highs Above $3.8

XRP is trading at around $2.06 on January 13, 2026, leaving its price action a full step below the zone that capped its last rally that ended with a high of $3.65 in July 2025.

However, predictions that point to XRP reclaiming that peak and then pushing into new highs above $3.8, have been on the front page of bank research notes and trader-led chart projections. Notably, various technical analyses have suggested that XRP is programmed to return back into the upper-$3s and into new price territories this year.

Standard Chartered’s XRP Target Clears $3.8

XRP’s all-time high price now looks out of reach, especially considering the cryptocurrency is now struggling to leave $2 behind. At the time of writing, XRP has dropped by about 44% from its July 2025 peak of $3.65, but institutional buys from Spot XRP ETFs are still giving glimmers of hope.

One of the most recently notable institutional-style projections from XRP comes from Standard Chartered’s digital assets research, which lays out a multi-year path that sees XRP breaking well above the $3.8 threshold.

According to analysts at the bank, XRP is slated to reach as high as $8 by the end of 2026, a level that comfortably eclipses the previous peak and implies roughly 300% upside from current levels if certain conditions hold.

Interestingly, this outlook came from Geoffrey Kendrick, Standard Chartered’s Global Head of Digital Assets Research. The prediction was made based on an outlook of continued institutional adoption and strong inflows into XRP-based spot ETFs.

Technical Outlooks As Ripple Heads Into A Consequential 2026

Recent technical commentary from multiple analysts has converged on a bullish bias for XRP. For instance, XRP analyst EGRAG CRYPTO pointed out a developing breakout retest structure on the monthly candlestick timeframe. According to the analyst, historical probabilities favor upside as long as XRP holds above the $1.60 to $1.40 range on higher timeframes, with long-term channel projections placing the XRP price as high as $22.

XRP

For a shorter-term perspective, Crypto Feras described XRP’s recent break above $2 as a bullish reversal signal. His analysis points to $2.67 and $3.01 as the next resistance levels, areas that could open the path toward a full retest of the prior peak near $3.8 if cleared. Adding to this, ChartNerd noted that XRP’s long-term upside fractal structure is still valid despite the recent XRP price correction.

These price projections are being viewed more favorably against the backdrop of Ripple’s momentum heading into the year. Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse recently pointed to strong progress in 2025 with examples of major acquisitions of Ripple Prime and GTreasury and a growing global licensing footprint.

Now that Ripple is positioning itself for what its leadership has described as a consequential 2026, the combination of technical outlooks and company fundamentals has strengthened the narrative that XRP could be approaching a move to new all-time highs.
