Ford will invest about $2 billion into the new business over the next two years.

The company is abandoning plans for a brand new all-electric pickup truck codenamed "T3" and ending production of the battery-only Lightning.

And when it does, the AI assistant will roll out to every existing EV in its lineup, not just the next-generation versions of its R1T truck and R1S SUV. 

The factories live on; the joint venture will not. The two companies will divide the assets: Ford will take ownership and operation of the twin battery plants in Kentucky, while SK On will operate the factory at the massive BlueOval SK campus in Tennessee.

The EV maker will likely share more details on its upcoming AI & Autonomy Day scheduled for December 11.

The automakers will work together to bring two Ford-branded EVs to European dealerships in 2028.
