The #1 best selling instant read thermometer on Amazon vs the Inkbird Thermometer!

By: Joe
Side by Side Kizen vs the Inkbird

You can never have to many Instant Read Thermometers and when it come to buying one, which is the right one to buy? What is the best bang for your buck? Is buying the most expensive brand worth it?

Actually since this post has been in my draft folder for a while the Kizen has been supplanted and a new #1 has taken it's place as the best selling instant read thermometer on Amazon and that is...

Digital Meat Thermometer, Waterproof Instant Read Food Thermometer for Cooking and Grilling, Kitchen Gadgets, Accessories with Backlight & Calibration for Candy, BBQ Grill, Liquids, Beef, Turkey by imsaferell

While I've never used this brand or this particular product, it is currently 11% off and has an additional 5% off coupon bringing the total price around $15 bucks. I suspect this is one of the reasons why it has become the #1 best selling product in a few categories. Check out the rankings below:

I've owned the Kizen for a while and I'm not sure how long it had the ranking but that is why I bought it as an impulse buy without any research. Before that I had the old fashioned temperature gauge style, you know the analog version...

But the Kizen is now up to almost $30 bucks as of writing this. As well as sitting dead in my junk drawer. I've yet to try and replace the batteries. It did last a year or so. I've been using the Inkbird since about November 2021 per my purchase history. Which is why I bought the Inkbird, it's rechargeable.

KIZEN Digital Meat Thermometer - Home Gadgets & Kitchen Gifts - Wireless Probe - Waterproof Instant Read Thermometer w/ Backlight for Cooking Food, Baking, Liquids, Candy, Grilling BBQ - Black/White save 28%

On to the Inkbird... one of the main reasons I chose this is the Kizen died. I assumed it was the batteries died and as mentioned aboved the Inkbird is rechargeable. I've owned a few of their products now and this was my second purchase from them. Flash forward the Inkbird is still going strong a year and a half later. It had a great promo at the time and was one of the lower priced brands and had some pretty good reviews. It currently has a 20% promo coupon taking it to around $20 bucks with tax. It also now has two other versions with additional leave in probes for monitoring tempuratures.

Inkbird Instant Read Meat Thermometer IHT-1P, Digital Waterproof Rechargeable Instant Read Food Thermometer, Cooking Thermometer with Calibration, Magnet, Backlight for Grill, Smoker, Kitchen, Turkey

Now I did mention you can never have to many of these around the house. I've also purchased another popular brand. The ThermoPro. Not to be confused with the brand Thermoworks which is highly rated and often considered for making some of the best products. However they are generally more expensive as they are the "name brand". Also of note Thermoworks brand is not on Amazon and if it is, it's not through an authorized seller. Visit their website https://www.thermoworks.com/

ThermoPro TP03 Digital Meat Thermometer for Cooking Kitchen Food Candy Instant Read Thermometer with Backlight and Magnet for Oil Deep Fry BBQ Grill Smoker Thermometer

Ironically this is also a #1 best seller, in the category of Candy thermometers and timers.

I find this one to be a little slower than the Inkbird, it doesn't seem to be as well made and it's battery powered. So I use this one as a back up. If you are in the market to purchase a new one. Go for the Inkbird it's faster and rechargeable. I got the Thermopro on sale for $9.99 and for that price it was worth it as a back up.

Hope this help! As always please like and share!

Kamado Joe Classic II vs. Kamado Joe Classic III is it worth the upgrade? Choose the KJ Classic II

By: Joe
Kamado Joe Classis II vs Classic III is it worth it?

The regular MSRP on the KJ Classic II is around $1300 and the MSRP on the KJ Classic III is around $1999. That is a difference of $699 unless you can find them on sale. Costco and Lowes has some amazing sales for the KJ II at under $1000 at the end of season and if you are in the market those deals are to good to pass up. You can use the savings to upgrade the Kamado Joe Classic II with Classic III parts. This is just one of the reasons to buy the Kamado Joe II over the III.

The SloRoller is the main upgrade on the Classic II vs. the Classic III aside from the cart and the charcoal basket. You can normally find the SloRoller for around $249 MSRP. See the detailed description of the SloRoller from Kamado Joe below.

See the video!

https://youtu.be/HMZ7-obD6vs?list=TLGGen5G0qEj0eMxNjEwMjAyMg

Crafted from unrivaled innovation, the SlลRoller transforms a Kamado Joeยฎ into one of the worldโ€™s most optimal smokers. By distributing smoke in rolling, recirculating waves, the SlลRoller surrounds food in clouds of decadent smoke while evenly distributing heat, resulting in enhanced flavor and reduced hot spots. Discover endless versatility for your Kamado Joe charcoal grilling experience.

FULL OF FEATURES

  • Includes SlลRoller Hyperbolic Smoke Chamber and new rack for use in Series I & II grills (cooking grates not included)
  • Easily insert by removing Divide & Conquer Rack and replace with SlลRoller and current cooking grates
  • Engineered to slow cook at temperature ranges of 150-300หšF
  • Classic Joeโ„ข Series SlลRoller compatible with Kamado Joe Classic Joe series, Large Big Green Egg, and other round 18-inch charcoal grills
  • Big Joeโ„ข Series SlลRoller compatible with Kamado Joe Big Joe series, XL Big Green Egg, and other round 24-inch charcoal grills

Kamado Joe's Charcoal basket does connect perfectly with the whole set up. The aftermarket ones fit but won't attach. That just means you have to take the basket out separately not really a big deal. The KJ charcoal basket will run you MSRP $129.00 you can save 15% as of writing this article and get if for $109.00.

Alternatively you can buy an off brand charcoal basket for significantly cheaper. I bought the OnlyFire brand it's currently around $50 bucks. It fits well, however it doesn't have the middle divider nor does it connect to the Divide and Conquer system.

With all that being said the two purchases will cost you around $380 dollars unless you can find them on sale or get an off brand version. There is no off brand SloRoller so you will have to purchase the KJ version.

So combining full retail prices the Classic II is still going to be around $300 cheaper.

I've read a lot of reviews on KJ III users and many of them don't set up the SloRoller they just use the heat deflectors. From a lot of reviewers the SloRoller isn't as easy to remove and set up as the heat deflectors and it's harder to clean.

The other main complaint about the SloRoller? It's actually made with a Teflon coating and not cast iron. So it isn't recommended to go above 500 degrees otherwise you can damage it. So using the KJ as a grill and leaving that in is not an option. Do you love to reverse sear a steak? This is not the set up for you. For the cost and that reason the KJ II wins over the KJ III in my opinion and the Kamado Joe Series II is better than the Kamado Joe Series III. I expect to receive some comments on this one! Let me know what you think!

Kamado Joe KJ15040921 Classic Joe III 18-inch Charcoal Grill with Cart

As of writing this article the KJ Classic III is 25% off and an amazing deal. If paying full retail on the KJ II it is worth it to shell out the extra $220 and buy the upgraded KJ III!

Should I use Butcher Paper when smoking meat? Texas Crutch Method? Tip Butcher Paper Fire starter!

By: Joe

To wrap or unwrap that is often the question when it comes to BBQing and smoking. Do you wrap your Bristket or Beef Ribs? Pork Butt?

Butcher Paper wrapped brisket resting in a cooler

Butcher paper is great to use. Some people prefer to smoke their meats and not wrap it aka "Texas Crutch" . The truth is there is no right or wrong way when it comes to great BBQ. It all comes down to your tastes. I prefer to wrap and rest it in a cooler to pull all those savory juices back in. Don't forget to add the wagyu beef tallow when wrapping.

Another great use of your old used butcher paper is to use it as a fire starter.

There are plenty of options when it comes to butcher paper but this one comes in a dispenser box. If you don't have your own cutter then you may have experienced the roll.... You know when the butcher paper just rolls right off the table and onto the ground or floor. Normally this will result in about 5 foot of paper waste. The other issue is uneven tears when ripping the paper. These may not be to big of issues for you if you have a proper outdoor prepping station but if you don't this is a good buy right now at 30% off.

Pink Butcher Paper (17.25 Inch x 175 Feet Roll With Dispenser Box) - For Meat Smoking and BBQ - Heavy Duty Unwaxed Unbleached Food Grade Paper - Smoker Safe - Use Wrap While Cooking For Tender Meat

Of course if you have your own cutter or want to buy one you can always go with Amazon's #1 best selling butcher paper. It's also made in the USA.

Pink Butcher Paper Roll - 18 Inch x 175 Feet (2100 Inch) - Food Grade Peach Wrapping Paper for Smoking Meat of all Varieties - Made in USA
