ClickFix attacks have been around for decades; only the name is new. ClickFix attacks use social engineering to trick users into clicking on buttons and links that the user is told are needed so their browser or computer can perform some desired action.

A popular phone call/voicemail scam (i.e., vishing) involves someone calling you, claiming to be law enforcement with a warrant for your arrest, and then offers you an opportunity to avoid arrest by paying the “fine.”

Today, anyone can find a picture of absolutely anybody and it is also not difficult to find a sample of their voice. By combining these it is shockingly easy to create a realistic AI deepfake video of that person. The video may not be perfect, and an experienced AI deepfake enthusiast might be able to see signs of it not being real, but it will be good enough to fool 99% of people.

At first, he thought it was the standard fake employer scam, but it is more than that. It is very likely part of a North Korean fake employee scam.  

Using the right tool for the job is always better.

Anyone who does DIY projects around the home knows how using the right tool can dramatically make the job you are doing far easier. Use the wrong tool, and that task suddenly becomes a burdensome nightmare.

I received this email the other day to my personal email account. It is a “Security Alert” from “Microsoft Helpdesk.” Oh, my!

AI maturation is leading to more malicious hacking attacks.

One of the biggest reasons why cybercrime is so bad — and is increasing each year —is that so much of it is committed by foreign nationals who are not physically located in the country they are attacking.

These days it can be hard to tell if something is or isn’t a scam.

It can happen to the best of us. 

This story happened a decade ago, when I was working at a Fortune 10 company. “Smartest” is subjective, but most of my former coworkers and external customers agreed the guy involved in this story was seen as the “smartest” guy around.
