Well yes, selling is allowed on Icarus Market. As for being free, it both is, and isn’t. In other words, it’s free for established vendors. It’s a temporary promotion the marketplace is running to attract new, established vendors.

For everyone else, there’s a $200.00 non-refundable fee which needs to be paid for the vendor accounts.

Vendors are allowed to sell anything and everything except underage porn, and weapons. Also as of now, the vendor-bond can only be paid in Bitcoins.

What are the accepted cryptocurrencies on Icarus Market?

As we just mentioned, the vendor-bond can only be paid for in Bitcoins. However, fortunately for buyers, the market also accepts payments via XMR (Monero) and Litecoin (LTC) in addition to Bitcoin.

It looks and feels exactly the same as Alphabay, with the options and buttons being exactly where they were on former platform.

That works as a plus point for users as you won’t be lost while on Empire Market, because all the basic concepts are the same and it’ll be as if you’re using Alphabay all over again.

Although obviously only the “look and interface” is an exact copy, everything else including buyers, sellers/vendors, admins, servers etc. are completely different and new.

Registration

The registration process at the marketplace isn’t as short as Dream Market, but it’s still simple and secure.

You need to provide a username, a password, accompanied by a login phrase and six-digit PIN.

Select your currency along with the default cryptocurrency and you’re all set. The registration process takes no more than couple minutes at best, and there are no personal details or identity documents required.

Forum

The official Empire Market Forum URL is empforumgfttfqnq. A Forum is generally a place where you get to interact with real people using the marketplace, and this holds true for every darknet market out there.

Although, with Empire Market the slight hiccup is that the forum isn’t hosted on the same parent domain, but rather a new domain altogether and hence you need to have separate login details for the marketplace and the Forum.

So, the username and password you use to login to the marketplace won’t work on the Forum and rather you need to Signup once again.

Another hiccup on the way is you can’t signup on the Forum without an E-mail ID. Now obviously you can always create and use a free, anonymous E-mail ID such as Protonmail, but even then the idea of a mandatory E-mail ID isn’t very pleasant.

Although the relief here is, you aren’t required to verify the E-mail ID you use, so even though it’s not recommended, you can use just about any random E-mail ID you want to register.

Here’s a glimpse of what the Forum looks like, considering it’s a new marketplace, the fact that it already has 916 registered members and over 1200 messages is commendable.

Over there on the Forum there’s a thread for nearly everything, considering listings for Drugs, Weapons, services etc.

You can also use the “Scam” thread at the end to reach the admins and let them know if you’ve been scammed.

 How Effective Is the Forum?

Do admins actually take notice of what people are saying? Well, apparently Empire Market ’s do!

Here’s a screenshot of people asking for a thread called “Hustle and Scheme” on 17^th April, 2018.

And on April 30^th, 2018 the thread was formed on the forum as can be seen from the above screenshot.

It’s just one of the examples establishing the fact that the threads, replies and messages on the Forum do not fall on deaf ears and are acted upon.

Empire Market Review

Now that I’ve listed the existing official URLs for the marketplace, here’s an updated review of the same.

Currently, the marketplace has 3548 products to be exact, which isn’t that big a number but well everyone starts low, don’t they?

Drugs obviously dominate the marketplace, with 1500+ products in the category which is nearly 50% of the marketplace’s total listings.

Then there are the 650 digital products which host products such as porn accounts, hacked credit cards, bank details and everything else which can be delivered to you digitally without the need to ship products physically.

Fraud claims the third position with products such as hacked bank accounts, CVV dumps etc.

Although what separates Empire Market from other marketplaces is that it’s one of the very few marketplaces which allows “Weapons” on its platform. Currently, they’ve listed Grenades, Gold Plated Ak-47, Berretta to name just a few.

Then talking of the security features, as you could see on the registration page there is the “Login Phrase” which is a phrase you set, known only to you or something personal, such as a favorite quote or something of that sort.

This phrase is then displayed on your account when you login, verifying for you that you’re on the legit Empire Market link.

Had it been a phishing site, it may look and feel the same, but it won’t have access to your phrase and hence that won’t be displayed, which indicates of the site being a scam.

There also is the Six digit pin which you set during registration, this pin is required for all major activities on your account, such as funds withdrawal /purchases and acts as an extra layer of security in addition to the password for your account.

And then there’s the Mnemonic code which is provided to you in case you lose your account, as there’s no other identifiable data used, this 9-word randomly generated Mnemonic code is what’s used to verify your ownership of the account.

Not to mention the obvious existence of the PGP key which you can use to secure your communications and encrypt your account making it as secure as technically possible.

And finally, they integrated 2 of 3 Multisig transactions on 4^th March, 2018 which is a “three party” contract (seller + vendor + the marketplace) out of which at least 2 must sign for a transaction to go through further increasing its security.

So, even though it’s not very product rich at the moment, it’s pretty secure.

Initially, Empire Market was launched only with Litecoin (LTC) as the payment method, but as of now they’ve incorporated support for Bitcoin as well as Monero!

Final Words on Empire Market

This isn’t the first time I’ve scribbled down a review on Empire Market marketplace, and I must say they’ve increased their security by quite a stretch, and integrated the new payment methods as well since the last time.

Now my primary focus on this piece was to get you the official URLs for the marketplace, which I suppose you’ve got by now.

Just one final piece of warning, the official Subreddit of Empire Market was banned for violating rules, so any other link you may encounter posing to be the official subreddit is probably a scam.

Also, not just the subreddit, but even for mirror links or any other URLs related to Empire Market, unless and until you’re absolutely certain of the links’ legitimacy, refrain from clicking on them if you value your Bitcoins.

Especially, social media comments and Youtube is a good source for hackers to lure the less educated in and steal their Bitcoins, so just make sure you take all links from official forums and announcement boards,  and even then only those which are posted by “Administrators” or “moderator” level members.

Can I Use DarkMarket Without Registering?

No, you can’t. Infact unlike some other marketplaces, DarkMarket doesn’t even allow users to browse the products unless registered.

Unfortunately that’s not the case with Darkmarket. A registration form asking only for:

Needs to be filled in order to register on the platform.

I personally feel that allowing access to the product-list without registrations is a faster and better approach, simply because if whatever a user is searching for isn’t available they wouldn’t waste any more time on the marketplace.

How Easy (Or Hard) is it Using DarkMarket?

DarkMarket upon login doesn’t redirect user’s to the product-pages like most other marketplaces do. Rather, it redirects users to their profiles.

The left-sidebar on the profile page is where the Navigational links reside and this is what helps users reach the vendor-application page, their messages, notifications, PGP and Bit Message configurations etc.

In order to reach the products’-page, users can click on the Darknet Market logo on the extreme top-left, and then choose from one of the available product- categories on the left-sidebar.

Once the user finds a product they’d like to purchase, they can click on the “Buy now” button, make the payment and that would finalize the order.

What Products Are and Aren’t Available on DarkMarket?

Most Darknet marketplaces allow the sale of anything and everything illegal, with the exception of a number of things on their “Restricted” list.

As for the types of products currently available on Darknet Market, the following screenshot directly from the marketplace will probably get you a better idea:

The total number of products is displayed to be 16298, which if true (as there are some marketplaces which cook their numbers) is pretty impressive.

The standard Darknet Products seem to be available, which include Digital Goods such as Software, E-Books, Serial Keys for software; Drugs such as Alcohols, Opiates, Stimulants, RCs, Benzos, Ecstasy etc.

Fake documents such as Passports, Licenses, Bills and Tax returns too can be purchased, Gold and silver Jewellery, Counterfeit, clothes, electronics, Currencies can be seen among the products as well.

DarkMarket didn’t try to go out of the traditional Darknet market rules. It too doesn’t allow the trade of:

• Illegal Porn.
• Violent depiction (Photo/videos).
• Organ trading.
• Guns or Weapons of any kind.
• Explosives
• And obviously Murder Services.

Is DarkMarket Wallet-Less?

I personally look at Wallet-Less marketplaces as a faster, modern, and more trustworthy mode of payments rather than those traditional wallets attached to a user account.

Fortunately DarkMarket does too and hence allows wallet-less deposits. The prime difference is, because now payments are made specifically and exclusively for each order to a new address, there’s no possibility of a user depositing funds on the marketplace, but not using them right away.

Or in other words, if you make a payment for an order, it’s considered “Paid for” and is shipped. While with traditional wallets, a user may deposit funds to his/her account, and may wait days or weeks before using those funds.

Is Escrow and Finalize Early Available?

Yes they are. Even though DarkMarket is wallet-less, it doesn’t mean that each deposit address is that of the vendor. The funds do not go straight to the vendors, and rather are kept with the Marketplace Escrow till successful delivery of the items (or dispute resolution).

Finalize-Early is primarily a feature for the vendors, but only is allowed for those vendors who have atleast 6 months of experience on the marketplace. Hence, they also act as a “trust-metric” for buyers indicating that any vendor with F.E enabled is a trustworthy seller to buy from.

Is 2-FA Available on DarkMarket?

Yes. 2-FA is available. 2-FA can be enabled via PGP and would require users to decrypt the PGP-encrypted message in addition to using a successful password in order to login.

2-FA while is optional for buyers, it’s a mandatory requirement for users applying to be a vendor on the marketplace.

Is DarkMarket’s Search-Panel Filter-Rich?

For a market boasting over 16,000 individual products, it’s important it have accurate and precise search-functionality, don’t you agree?

This is one of the few disappointing aspects on this DarkMarket review. For starters, a basic keyword search is completely off the rails. I searched for “Guns”, and the search panel displayed everything except “Guns”.

If you’d argue that Guns are banned on the platform, I searched for “Clothes”, which indeed has its own sub-category on the marketplace. And even then it returned results containing money-making guides, Drug & drug-making guides and so on.

It sure contained a couple results related to “clothes”, but the extra non-related results are pretty confusing and not professional.

Although taking purely of its search-filters, it’s pretty impressive. Price-range, geographical filters (source & destination), category etc. can be specified.

Which Cryptocurrencies can be used for Payment on DarkMarket?

DarkMarket alike almost all other Marketplaces out there accepts Bitcoin (obviously). But in addition to that, if you’d rather use XMR (Monero) as some believe it to be more anonymous, that’s available as well.

Note that while the marketplace supports both the Cryptocurrencies, it depends upon each vendor to accept or reject a Cryptocurrency. Hence not all vendors are forced to accept both the currencies and they aren’t available for all the purchases.

Does DarkMarket Accept Sellers?

Yes, it’s a P2P marketplace and connects buyers to sellers and vice-versa. Vendors need to pay a price of USD $100.00 (in BTC). However for vendors who’ve an established reputation on other marketplaces and have a positive history for atleast 6 months, this fee can be waived.

Similarly, Finalize-Early too requires atleast 1000+ positive reviews on other marketplaces, or an active profile on DarkMarket for atleast 6 months.

Closing Words:

Lastly for this DarkMarket review, note that DarkMarket operates globally, except in UAE and Russia. So this probably is the only major downer for the platform.

Apart from this, it’s easy to use, accepts Multiple Cryptocurrencies, has an extensive number of products, prompts users to verify a vendor’s stats before placing orders and is overall secure.

Bottomline, there aren’t many reasons why a buyer would refrain from using DarkMarket (apart from the legal reasons, ofcourse). But you may be the odd one out. If so, do let us know why or where the marketplace failed to please you and which marketplace you think has an advantage over DarkMarket.

It offers a search-feature with filters such as price-range, display currency, shipping source and destination, payment options (for the Drugs) etc. Anyone can find exactly the product they’re looking for using Kilos.

The search-engine takes your keyword and filters, and searches through all its 8 indexed Darknet Markets, 556,728+ forum posts, 764,555 reviews and 3,012 indexed vendors. In most cases you’d find someone who’s willing to sell you drugs based on your preferences.

If a user doesn’t have very specific choices, he/she can also choose products from the “Features listings” on the left-sidebar. It also doubles as a Bitcoin mixer and Monero exchange. No registration required.

It doesn’t confuse you with random features either. There’s a simple text-bar. Simply enter your desired keyword in the box and hit enter. Its database is equally impressive as well. Arguably, it’s one of the biggest in the industry despite Phobos being comparatively newer.

For advanced searchers, it also includes data such as the last response of the site along with ping time, and additional results along with the primary search result.

It also doesn’t show ads and hence there’s no additional clutter that you’ll have to fight through.

Candle

You may notice a slight similarity between Candle and Google, the logo and the user-interface that is; although I assure you it’s nothing like Google.

It’s one of the simplest deep web search engines that exists, and because it’s similar to Google on its interface you won’t find using it hard either.

It displays only .onion results and not clearnets and can be used to directly find deep web links if you know the keywords you’re searching for.

Although those advanced features we just talked about are included in the “premium” version of the Search engine and not free; the free version only functions as a general search engine with .onion sites.

There may be occasional ads although most of the time it’s an ad-free platform.

Abiko is one of the simplest deep web search engines, simplest in the sense that it includes absolutely nothing except a search box, and search results which include only .onion websites, no additional clutter.

The interface is as simple as it can be, and the search page resembles that of Google, although only slightly.

Abiko too is an ad-free search engine so you won’t need any ad-blockers, or have to worry about your screen getting spammed to death with the ads.

Onion Land

OnionLand is well recognized, and is sponsored by Tor and Tor2Web themselves! The homepage is easy to understand, with a search box and a handful of popular search terms in case you’re not loaded with keywords on your end.

It does accept and let users display ads, although that’s occasional and most of the time it’s ad-free just like Duck Duck Go or the other engines listed above. It displays only .onion results.

The search-page isn’t that well designed, it’s only “informative” which servers the purpose to be honest even though it’s not pleasing to the eyes. It displays the URLs in a very “notepad-like” format without any additional decorations.

Visitor differs greatly as compared to the other search engines we just crossed paths with. For starters, its user-interface isn’t that clean, and has quite a few ads.

Secondly, it’s not just a search engine, but also has a links’ directory and a stumbler. And finally, it lets users add their own .onion sites to Visitor index by simply submitting them using a submit form on the search engine itself.

As far as the search engine goes, it lists only .onion URLs, and the layout is unique and isn’t copied from Google or any other popular search engine, although it’s simplistic, quite easy to use and understand.

It’s one of my personal favourite destinations whenever I’m bored. It’s basically a site which takes you to random deep web sites, it’s pretty fun when you’re not sure where the next click lands you!

The homepage has two sections – Files & Links. Clicking on either one of them takes you to a specific page where there’ll be random links and options you can click, which will again take you to random websites.

For e.g. if you click on “links” and then on the big “Random.onion” image at the top of this specific page, it’ll take you to a random .onion site which you may or may not like.

The Hidden Wiki

This arguably is the best place to start on the Deep web. It’s basically a links’ directory, a webpage with hundreds of .onion (deep web) links you can visit.

The advantage of using The Hidden Wiki is that along with the URLs, it also has a description related to the site, so you know what you’re getting into. Many a times innocent users click on deep web links without knowing what it holds only to regret it later.

It also makes searching easier, you can either use the search bar at the top-right corner, or use the right-sidebar to directly find sites in the categories you’re looking for.

Although fair warning, not all the links on the page may be working, that’s so because these deep web links frequently keep changing due to govt. interventions and other reasons, but a handful of them still work.

Tor Links

TorLinks is basically the same thing as The Hidden Wiki; it too is a webpage which lists a lot of deep web sites for you to visit.

Although it has a much better interface, layout and is colourful. Also unlike THW’s right sidebar, it has the categories listed just under the top-bar.

The site links too are better categorized and with much better fonts. Although in this case too not all the links would be functional even though they manually update and edit the dead links periodically.

It has content ranging from Agriculture to Rocket-science, literally; but because the site is nearly as old as the Internet itself, the majority of the listed links have gone dead.

And it doesn’t seem like Tim, or anyone else monitors or edits the site anymore. But the links which still work are no less than goldmines to this date.

It somehow pulls specific descriptions for each site, if and when they contain the word you search for.

However, the description is omitted if the keyword isn’t available. This provides for a much cleaner interface than most other Tor search engines.

More importantly, a thumbnail of the website is displayed helping you easily recognize/find the sites you’re looking for.

As far as database size goes, it currently has 9,736, 907 indexed onions.

My search for “drugs” got me exactly 395 results.

I must say that’s an impressive number.

The most important and impressive aspect I found with QUO is that it doesn’t display “duplicate” links.

Almost every other TOR search engine does, and it’s frustrating.

QUO only displays unique links (1 result/URL).

Final Words on Deep Web Search Engines

I always say it’s the equivalent of eBay for Bitcoins, anyway here’s what I love about  LocalBitcoins:

• Extremely Anonymous.
• Escrow system protects trades.
• Nearly all Fiat currencies supported.
• Nearly all countries supported.
• More payment methods than almost any other exchange.
• No fee, except in some exceptional cases.

The one aspect that I don’t like, but am okay with trading it for the increased anonymity is:

• BTC price isn’t automated and determined by users which is slightly higher than normal price.

I’ve been singing praise-songs for its anonymous crypto swap because no documents, proof of identity or anything else is required to signup on LocalBitcoins, you can create an anonymous E-mail ID and use it.

There’s no wait-time for account creation; it’s instant as there are no verifications included.

The time required for a transaction to go through depends on the buyer and the seller, the faster you make the payment and notify the seller, the faster the deal goes through.

As for supported countries, it supports nearly every country out there, with some exceptions such as Germany and Russia, along with some USA states including New York.

There aren’t any limitations except the countries which aren’t supported and seller-specific limitations which the sellers impose such as the highest amount they’re willing to sell, or identity-verification requirements.

Payment modes are another factor which makes LocalBitcoins one of the best Bitcoin exchange in the industry; it supports nearly every payment mode which you can use to send money from one person to another.

The reason I include Binance in this list even though it’s less than a year old is because of my own personal experience with the platform.

Update 2020: Binance is over 3 years old now, and it’s arguably “the” best Bitcoin exchange as of today. It has already proven its worth, both technically and also as far as user-satisfaction goes.

Here’s what I like about the platform:

• Zero privacy risk – No Verification required.
• Over 198 countries supported.
• Over 300 coins supported!
• Fiat support

What I didn’t like:

• Funds’ security isn’t transparent.

Alike Bitfinex, Binance too is a trading platform and a fairly new one to be honest. But for someone like me who holds privacy in the highest regard, Binance seemed like a great choice as it doesn’t need any kind of verification.

As for user-interface, it too is slightly complex, or better to say it’s not as simple as the other platforms listed in this best Bitcoin exchange list but it’s still understandable.

Currently, it supports only Cryptocurrencies and no fiats, which in my personal opinion is a plus point rather than a flaw, the simple reason being crypto are anonymous and can’t be traced (at least to some extent) while Fiats are extremely easy to do so.

As of now, Binance has incorporated fiat exchanges/purchases as well.

So, now you can purchase (and even sell) Bitcoins(and many other Cryptocurrencies) not only via Cryptocurrencies, but also using Credit/Debit cards and bank transfers directly.

This sure means the fiat purchases aren’t as anonymous as Crypto purchases. However, if you don’t own any Crypto and wish to start now, it’s as easy as ordering something online.

There’s a 2.5% fee on purchases when purchased using its payment processor (Koinal).

You can also choose to buy/sell Crypto directly on Binance’s P2P exchange. The price and fee depends on each individual buyer/seller.

Talking of privacy, Binance is, without doubt, one of the very few platforms which let you buy/sell/trade Bitcoins without identity-verification hence making it a great inclusion to this list of best Bitcoin exchange.

Unverified accounts can withdraw as much as 2BTC/day although you can verify your identity and upgrade your account to higher levels and then you’ll be able to withdraw 100BTC at level 2, or even more at Level 3+.

It provides “anti-phishing” protection, SMS authentication and Google authenticator authentication as well to help secure your accounts.

Moreover, it thwarted a hacking attempt in March 2018 when its automated algorithms recognized a massive “hack-pump & sell” plan by hackers enforcing our trust in the platform.

It supports as many as 198 countries, which includes nearly all the countries on the globe including the U.S; that’s so because it’s a crypto-only platform so doesn’t matter where you’re from you can always deposit and withdraw funds to a crypto wallet without involving the banks and/or the govt.

It also is one of the very few (probably just 2-5) Bitcoin exchanges which allow trading IOTA currency! Apart from IOTA, it supports over 300 cryptocurrencies! That’s one of the largest lists of supported coins you’ll ever find on any exchange.

And finally, even the fee is acceptable; all deposits are absolutely free, while if you trade your coins meaning you exchange them for some other coins a fee of 0.1% is levied which I’ll say is extremely affordable.

It also has this feature which reduces the trading fee by half; meaning then you’ll pay only a 0.05% fee if you use BNB (Binance) coins to trade.

As for withdrawal fee, Binance charges a 0.0005BTC fee for Bitcoin withdrawal, 0.01ETH for Ethereum and 2.3USDT for TetherUS. You can find a complete list here.

It also has minimum withdrawal limits which too are pretty low making it one of the best Bitcoin exchange in existence, the minimum BTC you can withdraw is 0.002BTC, the other minimum limits too are listed on the fee page.

A number of coins including TOMO, Ark, ARPA, THETA, LOOM etc. can be staked.

The interest may be as low as 1% annually, to as high as 12% annually ( on LOOM).

Bottomline, why it has the potential to be the best Bitcoin exchange is because of its anonymity, low fee, security and not that complicated a user-interface.

4. Coinbase

Coinbase is arguably the largest Bitcoin exchange in the industry with over 50 Billion USD already exchanged, it came into existence 7 years ago, and has been improving itself ever since.

Some of the prime reasons why I like Coinbase are:

• Supports 32 countries.
• Safe coin storage + Insurance.
• Easy Payment methods.
• Low fee.

What I didn’t like:

• Isn’t Anonymous. Needs verification.
• In recent some updates, they give more than 13000+ users records to IRS.
• Risk with identity

The user-interface at Coinbase is no harder than that at Cex.io, the fonts are big enough, the buttons are well-placed, it’s all straight-forward, and they’ve added charts and graphs to the mix as well to make things easier to understand.

Currently, it supports a total of 32 countries, which covers most of the countries such as the United States, Singapore, Canada Austria, United Kingdom, Denmark, Switzerland, etc. Here’s a complete list:

As for payment methods, you can deposit funds via Bank Transfers, Credit/Debit cards, SEPA, Xfers. It’s not an extensive a list as LocalBitcoins, but it works.

The fee for the deposits varies based on the payment method used, country and a number of other factors and it varies for almost every country, but here’s an overview which should help you get an idea:

Alike Cex.io, Coinbase too functions on an account level structure, the higher your verification level, the better your buying and selling limits are. Also, the limits vary depending on the method being used.

The limits on a Bank linked to your Coinbase account will be different, to a credit card linked to the same account.

A Fully verified U.S user gets as much as $50,000 worth of Bitcoin limit/day, while the maximum Bitcoins any European user is allowed to have in his/her account at any given time is worth EUR30,000.

The identity verification process is mandatory, and can be completed via the phone number, photo, govt. Issued ID etc. So speaking strictly from the perspective of anonymity and privacy, there is none.

The time taken for verification too differs from your level and documents provided, but it doesn’t take more than couple days at best.

For deposits it’s instant if you use a Credit/Debit card, bank transfers may take around 4-5 days, EFT transfers for Canadian users too need around 3 days, while SEPA transfers are completed within 24-72 hours.

So in a nutshell, if lack of anonymity doesn’t hurt you a lot, Coinbase can totally be the best Bitcoin exchange for you.

Bitfinex is one of the most talked about Bitcoin exchange today, partially due to the fact that it is world’s largest exchange by Volume, and the other reason being the hacks that it had to face in the last couple years.

The primary reasons why I love Bitfinex are:

• Fort-Knox like Security (thanks to its recent problems).
• Over 72 trading pairs.
• Low Fee
• 7+ trading types!
• Customizable interface.

What I don’t like:

• Fiat deposits/Withdrawals available only for KYC Verified users.
• Verification takes 4-7weeks!

Note that because Bitfinex is not only a Bitcoin exchange, but also a trading platform its user-interface isn’t exactly as clean or simple as that of Cex.io or Coinbase, so you’ll need some getting used to.

Bitfinex does support both fiats as well as Cryptocurrencies, but in order to deposit/withdraw fiats (USD/EUR) etc. you need to complete the KYC verification which includes providing your proof of identity.
